So far mine has stopped but as you say it did not resemble a marketing pop up at all it is a misleading pop up that it makes it look like your Virus DB needs updating, which it doesn't, it is a sneaky way of getting you to install something you don't want and only for a trial period too by the sounds of it. I followed the instructions form Komal to uninstall AVG Free, restart PC and reinstall it using the link for Win 7 64 bit PC and thought I'll see if that stops the pop up. Then like you every day after stopping the install I would get the AVG needs updating pop up. I do have other equipment but I don't like this synching thing partly because on some things I have different settings anyway. I have been following your thread because like you I got a pop up that said AVG Free needs updating which I clicked thinking it was the usual updates and the only difference was I didn't install Zen as I looked at the installation thing and saw it was installing something called Zen so I cancelled it as it was nothing I had heard of and when I googled I thought nah don't want nor need that. So again, I ask and implore AVG to continue to provide AVG, free or otherwise, as a standalone product for those of us who have no use for the Zen interface.Ĭan I say Rich I feel your pain. Perhaps your marketing folks should revisit this, AVG Free Protection would be a LOT more clear. Frankly, the works "protection free" implies to me that there iis NO protection included, or it's "free" of protection. Or, are you saying that at some point the pops saying AVG needs to upgrade will stop if I keep closing the pop up window?Īfter some research (it's not at all obvious), apparently the new name for the free version of AVG is "AVG Protection Free", which includes Zen.

It's an add on that a person with a single computer and no smartphone/tablet/etc. This is different, it's advertised as an upgrade to AVG, not an add on. Normally, the popups have a decline option, and are advertised as something extra. If you're read this whole thread, you'd know that I understand and have no problem with the popups as a legitimate campaign to have folks use/add new features/additional parts of AVG. I don't think you do understand my concern.
